I was raised in Southern California, and received a Bachelors degree in Psychology from California State University Northridge (CSUN), and attended Azusa Pacific University where I earned a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family counseling.
I was licensed as an MFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) by the Board of Behavioral Sciences in 1984, and have maintained a full time private practice since that time.
Work experience includes employment at Westmark School for three years (1995 until 1998), as an on site psychotherapist and consultant. Westmark is a private school for children with Learning Differences. The school focuses on the individual needs of each student to provide a successful and enriching environment that was conducive to learning.
I was employed by Crespi Carmelite High School for nine years, (2001 until 2010), as the on site psychotherapist. Crespi is an all boys Catholic high school. I loved my years there and developed a specialty working with teen age boys and the unique issues and challenges they face. My strength lies in working with this population. Working with teens and their families is a passion of mine. The teenage years are so complicated and important, and it can be so helpful to have a professional to guide them through this time.
The Milton Erickson Foundation provided me with training in Clinical Hypnosis. This type of treatment is very helpful with athletes in terms of performance improvement, as well managing anxiety. Hypnosis is a valuable tool to help clients see their circumstances through a different and healthy perspective. This new perspective allows people to make positive changes using their own unique nature and strength. I have worked with professional, high school, as well as college athletes using hypnosis to increase their performance, develop confidence and break destructive patterns.
My approach to treatment is a combination of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness as well as interventions using the Family Systems ideology.
The relationship between the therapist and the client is special and sacred. It is important above all, to chose a therapist you can trust and feel comfortable with. I welcome all inquiries regarding treatment related issues. Please feel free to contact me should the need arise.
